Passionate in 2012

You know when you see something that just sticks with you and you catch yourself thinking about it every free moment you have?  Well, I was over at The Answer is Chocolate and Carol's New Years Resolution (Focus) has just haunted me ever since I saw it. You can go here to see it.    I have been wanting to post, to craft, to clean, to organize and just sit down at my computer to see what everyone is doing.  Then, I was outside with the kids (I always take a magazine) and I came across a page in my Women's Day that said, "Brand-New Start", and, that intrigued me too.  Though no one can go back and make a Brand-New Start, anyone can start from now and make a Brand-New Ending.  I liked that so much, I framed it.

(I think I am going to hang it my bedroom.)

That got me to thinking more about my situation.  I used to be so energetic and could multitask so many things.  Now, I really get the meaning and cute stories in, Cooking with Hot Flashes, By: Martha Bolton.  I used to have PASSION.  

Boy it is hard to get a good picture (sorry).

I hung it above my sink in the kitchen to remind me everyday.

I had passion for my Lord and Saviour, my husband, family and crafting.  I made all my gifts, cards, and every meal was home cooked and healthy.  I need my passion back.  So, for The Messy Roost, Passion is the theme for the year 2012.  Hold on to your feathers, I am getting passionate.  Here are a

Picture Frame Window

 I am so excited to tease you with what I am working on.  I wasn't home all weekend and my time seems to be flying.  However, my son, James, got all of my Halloween/Fall stuff down.  I am in process of decorating, daycare, and my own kids schedules -- it seems to be taking me forever to get anything done.  But, this is how my entryway is shaping up:

I totally fell in love with Janet's window over at Today's Fabulous Finds, go here to see hers.  It is awesome and I have been waiting a long to time to re-recreate one for me.  I just know I will have a blast decorating it for all of the upcoming holiday's.

Remember these?  I used the large one for this project.

I started by removing the glass and picture.

I bought a real thin piece of wood trim about 1 in. wide and rounded edges at the Home Depot.  It was really inexpensive for about a 5 ft. long piece.

I measured the width and length (from the inside lip) of the picture frame and cut it with a handsaw.

I painted all the pieces an olive green to match my shelf.

I then took a rag and rubbed an antique white paint until I got the effect I wanted.  Then, I added some stain and glued it together.

You can see how I glued it on that inside lip.

I just overlapped it.

Ta Da -- I can't believe mine turned out.

On to my wreath.  I bought this grapevine wreath at the thrift store for $1.00.  I added cheese cloth (from my lantern project) and spiders.  I had spider rings and a couple of larger spiders, from Walmart, to make it match my lantern.

I even did the same bow.

Added some spider webs, crows, and rats (from the Dollar Store).

I am still working on the top of my entryway dresser (below my shelf).  I will be showing you the finished product a little later.  Until then:

21 Day Challenge - Mail Station & Bill Box

I finally finished my mail station and bill box.  I loved Toni's over at A Bowl Full of Lemons.  When I saw hers, I knew I already had all the supplies.  She is so awesome, she has showed me how use what I have on hand.  Anyway, here is mine (another coopy cat):

I put mine at the end of this counter.  It is between my living room and kitchen.

Just below this red organizer.

I can put a couple of pictures in it.  I keep sports and school schedules in it.  It even holds my I pod (it is the small I pod and I think I could really loose it).

The Cabinet next to it holds my cook books and notebooks

I think it fits ok.

Mine is a little green file box with the calender on front (just like Toni's)  I got my calendar from I heart organizing.   I even use different colored pens for each person in the family.

I love pens, so, I have two containers holding them.  The buzz jar in front is a clay pot filled with loose change.  The metal box hold my receipts from my purse, husbands pockets, etc.

I keep bills in here until desk day.  I also keep all my day care files and phone list in here.  It keeps it close and ready when I need it.  The file that helps me most is my Calendar Backup.  I through agendas for meetings, invitations, maps, etc.  After the event, I throw them away.

I even have a little trash basket on the floor under the station.

Now, this is my bill box.  I think I have had it for about 18 years.  I don't even remember where I got it (ordered it through a catalog?)

I love it.  You can even slip your bills through this slot on top.  It is just so ugly, that I like to keep it in the closet until time to pay bills.

In here I have folders - Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 and Week 4.  I get paid weekly, so I keep my bills that are due in these folders until I pay them.  I have my budget, budget forms, medical files and a file to through tax paper in.  It has another section to keep envelopes and a check book.

When done, I through my calculator on top, close the lid and put it away.

I got these magazine holders at Target in the dollar spot (score).  I will post when I get them organized and put away nicely.

Here are my other files from the dollar spot.  Once every week or two, I sort my receipts (from my little metal container) by category and file them.  I can hardly wait to get them all this cute folder.  It has 13 categories, which is perfect my business receipts.

This one is my favorite (I just think it is cute).  It is the smallest one.  I use it in my purse for my cash.  Groceries, gas, coffee, and home supplies.  The front one is for the coupons I plan on using that day.

This was the funnest of my desk day.  Creating fun office supplies.  I glued rosettes to a dollar notebook.  It is cute which makes me want to use it.  I plan on using it for notes to me.  Just reminders and whatnot.

I even decorated clothes pins for paper clips.  So fun and easy.  It just took scrapbook paper and mog podge.  I even put a cute rosette on one.

I Hate Paper Work & Burlap Wreath

I hate paper work.  I really tried to stay on task.  I even went to Target to get labels for my label maker.  This is what I saw at the Dollar Spot (I always check the dollar spot): 

I think they are pretty cool.  So pretty cool I bought them in three sizes.  I will put cash/coupons in one (for my purse), receipts will go in another one (13 tabs) for my daycare business.  This big one, I will use for appliance manuals, rebates, etc.

Just putting paper in them was BORING.  So, I decided to put paper on them:

I just used scrapbook paper and mod podge.  The flower was from my menu board I made here.  I will totally use it because it is pretty and fits nicely in my purse.

I LOVE rosettes.  Filing receipts won't be so bad.

While at Target, I wanted to look for something, a sign or poster, to welcome my kiddos back.  I really didn't see anything like that.  So I just came home.

When I got home and was looking at all my unused, unloved paper from the 90's, I decided to jump on, and, make it a banner welcome.  Pardon the pun (hee hee)

There you go, paper work isn't quite as bad now.  Oh, I am totally a coopy cat (get it coopy instead of copy), and got the idea from a blog.  I know if you type in Burlap Ruffle Wreath, you will find it.  I got my thin twiggy wreath from the dollar store, along with the jute.  The only bad part is wrapping the entire wreath with jute.  It took me a couple of evenings, after the kids went home, to do it.  The burlap I already had.   I just used my glue gun and folded and glued.   Here it is with my rosettes and flower:

I got the biggest wreath I could find.  This is my favorite thing.  I just change up the decorations for whatever holiday.
