Chalkboard and Cabinet Tops

Welcome back everyone.  I hope I didn't scare you off with my post yesterday.  I feel like a weight has lifted and I am able to craft and move on with things. Thanks for sticking by me.  Today I am taking charge of my cabinet tops.  I'm sorry I didn't take pictures of the way they were for many years.  I just couldn't put my same chickens back up.  So below, is my little creation for the tops of my cabinet.  I don't know if you visit Fox Hollow Cottage, but, Shannon has a wonderful blog full of great ideas and I took this one from her. So please, go visit when you can (click Fox Hollow Cottage).

Please don't judge.  This is my counter -- can you say YIKES.  I am a little overwhelmed and thought I would focus on getting the extra chickens and decor up and back on my cabinet tops.

I bought this weird frame (the glass was already glued and ready) to make a sign.  I love all the signs that let everyone know when you got married.  So, this is my attempt.  I started by painting it a dark blue.

These are my color choices.  Dark blue, light blue, vintage white and a dark walnut stain.

I painted the entire frame dark blue and let it dry.  I then wiped the light blue on letting some of the dark shine through.  I repeated with the white only to cover most of the frame.  After the paint dried, I hit it with a butter knife and sanded it in different places then wiped stain over the entire frame.  I let is sit for a little bit and wiped it all off with a clean cloth.

I love the effect.  I don't think the camera catches how cool it looks.  Just think, a year ago I would have been so afraid to try this - he he.

For the chalkboard, I just used the black (chalkboard) contact paper cut to fit the glass.

I covered the contact paper with chalk and let it sit for a while.

What do you think?  My husband was a little worried - it's not permanent - ha ha.

A little Valentine message.

These are a the other grouping I came up with.  What do you think?

Thanks again for stopping by and my counter is almost cleared.  More to come soon.

This is where I party: The Shabby Creek Cottage
