Pedestal Bowl

I have been wanting for a pedestal bowl ever since I saw one in a home tour.  I even looked on Craig's List and EBay.  They are very expensive and the cheaper ones, I really didn't like.  So, I made my own:

It took me a few weeks of searching garage sales and thrift stores to find a base that was short and wide.  First, I was going to use a thin candle stick, but, I would have had to add a disk of wood to bottom and stabilize it with another piece of wood between the bowl and candle stick.  So, I was very happy when I found this one for .75.  It's glass and silver, but, after a coat of paint, you won't be able to tell (I hope).

This is what I started with.

I got the bowl for .75 at a yard sale.  It had a crack, so, I put some wood putty on it and sanded it down.

Then, outside to paint all the pieces.

Once painted and dried, I took it inside.

Since it's not going to be used for food, I sanded it in places and used a wood stain to make it look old.  The crack looks cool too.

I used a strong glue to glue the two pieces together, and , there you go.

You can't even tell that the base was glass.

I love it and can't wait to display it in my den.

Thanks for coming by,
Rhonda
